FONDACA’s work focuses on the following thematic areas:
- new forms, expressions, and practices of citizenship in contemporary societies
- the nature, role, and impact of civic activism organizations, and their relationships with stakeholders
- the public role of non-state actors
- the process of building European citizenship
- new forms of democratic governance
FONDACA’s activities are carried out through an integrated set of actions:
Research
FONDACA conducts theoretical, empirical, and applied research on issues aligned with its mission, with a particular focus on citizenship. Its research draws on knowledge produced at the intersection of multiple humanities and social science disciplines. Knowledge production is a foundational element of FONDACA’s work; accordingly, almost all projects include a research component, even when this is not explicitly planned.
Consulting and support
FONDACA provides consulting and support services to private companies, public institutions, and civic organizations, distinguishing itself through a strong orientation toward innovation in models, practices, and accountability. These kind of activities range from organizational assessment and the design of new courses of action, to the facilitation of stakeholder engagement processes and support in the implementation of specific activities, such as the evaluation of interventions and the facilitation of civic planning and consultation processes related to the use of public spaces and services.
Policy activities
Although it is not a traditional consulting firm, FONDACA contributes to public debate through analyses, evaluations, and proposals addressed to policymakers and other public actors, both within formal consultation processes and through its own initiatives. In this sense, FONDACA operates as a think tank.
Cultural and scientific dialogue
FONDACA promotes events and opportunities for dialogue aimed at discussing key issues and disseminating knowledge on the topics it addresses, involving the international scientific community and the extensive network of relationships built over time. This area reflects FONDACA’s distinctive position at the intersection of the scientific community, political leadership, administrative institutions, citizen organizations, and private enterprises.
Advanced training
FONDACA is engaged in the design of training programmes, the production of educational materials, and the training of trainers. After many years of work in the field of corporate citizenship training, FONDACA currently focuses its efforts on civic activism and new forms of participation and on education for democratic citizenship.
Project design and implementation
In recent years, FONDACA has acted as lead partner and/or project partner in projects funded by national and European public funds and implemented in different areas across Italy. These initiatives have focused in particular on the empowerment of migrant people and on addressing educational and cultural poverty.
