History and mission
The Active Citizenship Foundation (FONDACA) was established in 2001 and is based in Rome.
FONDACA uses citizenship as a lens for understanding social transformations, with the aim of contributing to the vitality and quality of public debate in Italy and across Europe.
A strong commitment to expanding knowledge, pursued through theoretical, empirical, and applied research, guides all of the Foundation’s activities. Research therefore represents the core of FONDACA’s work, while being integrated transversally into every initiative and project it undertakes.
Since its inception, FONDACA has established itself as a crossroads of relationships and connections among the scientific and research community, institutions and public administrations, the world of civic activism, and the private business sector. The phenomena, themes, and issues addressed in its activities are examined by drawing on the body of knowledge produced by a wide range of scientific disciplines, including sociology, political science, cultural anthropology, policy analysis, organizational studies, and communication studies.
